A solar water system works using three basic components:
- Collection: The sun's rays reach the solar collector, which heats up copper tubes or fins
- Storage: Water is heated and stored in a tank
- Distribution: Solar hot water is distributed as needed via your water heater
How solar electric systems convert the sun's rays into energy:
- Collection: The sun's rays reach the photovoltaic panels (PV), energizing electrons
- Current creation: Electrons move through a wire, creating a current of electricity
- Conversion: The current passes through a converter which creates power used in our homes and businesses
